Mental Health Court Support
Services provides diversion and court
support services for persons with serious mental illnesses
in Brant
County. Services are provided to persons who are 16 years of
age or
older. These services assist individuals with accessing
treatment and
support services, in order to maintain a healthier lifestyle
and avoid
further contact with the criminal justice system. |

include: |
Diversion: |
- Pre-charge) For individuals who have been in contact
with the police and may be charged with a low-risk
offence .
- (Post-charge) For individuals who have been charged
with a low-risk offence and are before the court.
Individuals must agree to participate in the program
voluntarily. The Court Support Worker will meet with the
individual to assess their situation and will make
recommendations abut what services could be helpful.
Services could also include linkages to community
services and involvement with the Diversion Community
Support Worker.

Consultation: |
- Individuals who are not deemed suitable for
diversion may consult with a Court Support Worker around
bail, probation or other release plans.
- Consultation and advice may be given to lawyers on
cases referred for disposition

Education: |
| Information regarding consumer
issues, mental illness and the mental health system is
available to consumers, family members, service providers,
police and court personnel. |
